Racism Controversy
On May 28, 2017, the Serbia women's national volleyball team attracted controversy for a racist photo. After beating Poland in a match to secure their place in the 2018 FIVB Women's World Championship to be held in Japan, the team celebrated by taking a photo, in which they pulled their eyes back, a historically racist gesture intended to mock and insult Asian people.
